Today I have on my solar powered Casio Edifice EQS-500. I just love how this things looks. To some, it may be a bit too busy, but this watch is just cool to me. For what all it does, I think it was a great bargain at under $150 when I purchased it a few years ago.

So what does Oppo have on today?

It’s a british brand if I recall correctly. They base all their designs on fighter jets or aviation in general, hence the name I guess.

Funny you bring up the old slogan (do they still use that?)...the watch has the loudest movement I’ve ever heard. It’s seriously as loud as a mantle clock. Back in high school, when it was my only watch, I’d take it off at the movie theater and put it under my thigh so it wouldn’t bother folks haha. But yeah, can’t complain...I’m rough on my watches and tend to destroy them (at one point I had thirty plus and realized that was overkill, down to 10 via attrition) but this guy just keeps on going. Indiglo even still functions.

Really? So it’s always been that loud? I wonder if it just the type of movement they used back then. I’ve heard a few loud ones, but nothing as loud as you say that one is.

Wow, that’s some serious attrition. I’m currently sitting on 17. I have a few thay I wear more than others. I may eventually downsize a bit since there a few that I just don’t wear that often.

I like it, as smartwatches go. The battery lasts an entire week, so I don’t ever really have to worry about charging it—it lasts long enough that you can kinda just treat it like any other watch, as it turns out.

The screen’s always-on, so there’s no wrist-shaking or button pressing to actually check the time—though you can trigger the backlight with a wrist wobble, which is handy if you’re used to digital watches and such.

Beyond that, it does all that good smart watch-y stuff. I use Smart Lock to keep my phone unlocked whenever it’s connected to the watch, which can be pretty handy if you, like me, have a phone with the fingerprint sensor on the back and sometimes set it down on tables while you’re in a coffee shop or whatever.

It serves actionable notifications, and lets me control music playback while I’m driving, without having to take my eyes off the road or mess about with a touchscreen, which is great. That and Smart Lock is really the bulk of what I use it for, but it can do loads more if you want it to—GPS directions, games, voice memos, note checking and so on: there’s an app for more or less everything.

Well thanks! Just snagged one knee when I bumped up against a Velcro loop for the speaker cords (teaching band today). It made me sad.

And no watch because percussion and I hate stuff on my wrists/fingers.

Well I do have big feet, just not snowboard boot big. Combat-ish boots don’t help.
